Ways to explore

Safaris, rentals & activities

Destinations are where you go; these are the ways you experience them. Rent a car or a fully kitted 4x4, walk with an armed guide, move camp to camp on a mobile safari, fly the Delta by helicopter, cross the Makgadikgadi Pans, or glide the channels by mokoro. Add any of them to your plan.

Rentals & self-drive

Your own wheels — from a simple town car to a fully kitted expedition 4x4.

Car rental

Sometimes you just need a sedan or compact SUV to get around Maun, Gaborone or a city leg. We arrange straightforward car rental with reputable suppliers, explain the insurance options plainly, and can add a local SIM, child seats and an extra driver so you're road-ready from the airport.

  • Best for towns, tar roads and transfers — not bush tracks
  • Automatic and manual options; child seats on request
  • We explain excess and insurance in plain language
  • Cross-border letters arranged for regional trips

From USD 45 per day

Guided safaris

On foot or moving camp to camp, led by expert guides.

Walking safari

Nothing compares to tracking game on foot. Led by an armed, professionally licensed guide, a walking safari slows everything down: you read tracks and dung, learn the medicinal plants, watch dung beetles and weaverbirds, and feel the genuine thrill of approaching big game with the wind in your face. Available as a short morning walk or a multi-day wilderness trail.

  • Always with an armed, licensed professional guide
  • Morning walks to multi-day fly-camping trails
  • Minimum-age rules apply (usually 12–16)
  • A reasonable level of fitness helps; paced to the group

From USD 90 per person, half day

Mobile safari

The mobile safari is the romantic heart of Botswana travel: a guided expedition that moves with you through Moremi, the Delta, Savuti and Chobe, with a dedicated crew who set up camp, cook over the fire and break it down while you're out on a game drive. Choose participation (hands-on, great value) or fully serviced (everything done for you). It's immersive, flexible and wonderfully social.

  • Private or small-group departures
  • Participation (value) or fully-serviced (luxury) styles
  • Links the Delta, Moremi, Savuti and Chobe in one trip
  • Your own guide, vehicle and camp throughout

From USD 250 per person, per night

Specialised package

Bird watching

A specialised package for keen birders, delivered through our walking and mobile safaris and led by a dedicated bird guide. The Okavango and Chobe hold more than 470 species — African skimmers, Pel's fishing owl, carmine bee-eaters, the rare wattled crane and slaty egret. On foot you work the quiet channels and treelines; on a mobile safari you cover the range of habitats that turns a good list into a great one. Timed to the season you travel, with quality optics and checklists provided.

  • Offered via walking and mobile safaris, with a specialist bird guide
  • 470+ species across the Delta, Chobe and Linyanti
  • Green season (Nov–Mar) is peak for migrants and breeding plumage
  • Quality binoculars, scopes and regional checklists provided

Wild animal tracking

A specialised package for travellers who want the real skill of the bush, delivered through our walking and mobile safaris. With a master tracker and an armed guide, you learn to read spoor, dung, scent and alarm calls, then put it into practice following lion, elephant, wild dog or rhino on foot. The mobile-safari format lets you move with the wildlife across Moremi and the Delta, picking up fresh tracks each morning. It's the most engaged, hands-on way to experience African wildlife.

  • Offered via walking and mobile safaris, with a master tracker + armed guide
  • Learn spoor, scent, dung and alarm-call reading
  • Dry season (May–Oct) gives the clearest tracks and sightings
  • Minimum-age rules apply; a reasonable level of fitness helps

From USD 120 per person, per day add-on

Air & signature

See it from above, and reach the places only the few ever do.

Helicopter safari

Lift off over the Okavango with the doors off and the entire mosaic of channels, islands and herds opens beneath you. A helicopter safari is the most exhilarating way to grasp the sheer scale of the Delta — and the only way to reach the most remote, unspoilt corners. Choose a scenic flip, a doors-off photographic charter at golden hour, or a fly-in transfer to a camp where no vehicle can go.

  • Doors-off photographic flights on request
  • Sunrise and sunset slots are the most rewarding
  • Reaches wilderness no vehicle can
  • For dedicated birding or tracking from the air, ask about our specialised packages

From USD 350 per person, scenic flight

Makgadikgadi Pans

The Makgadikgadi is otherworldly: a horizon-to-horizon expanse of cracked salt where the curvature of the earth is visible and the silence is total. In the dry season, ride quad bikes across the pans, meet habituated meerkats, walk with Zu/'hoasi Bushman guides and sleep out on a bedroll under a blaze of stars. In the green season the pans fill, flamingos arrive, and Botswana's zebra migration thunders across the grasslands.

  • Dry season (May–Oct): quad biking, meerkats, sleep-outs
  • Green season (Dec–Apr): zebra migration and flamingos
  • Bushman-guided walks and stargazing
  • Pairs well with the Delta and a Maun start

From USD 300 per person, per night

Water & Maun

The Okavango at its most magical — channels, canoes and easy river days.

Day trip to the Delta

Short on time or budget but determined to see the Delta? A day trip gets you in. Run with a mobile-safari operator, you head out from Maun by game viewer into Moremi or a community concession, usually combining a game drive with a mokoro glide and a bush picnic before returning the same evening. It's the most accessible taste of the Okavango, and a brilliant add-on to a town stay.

  • By road game viewer into Moremi or a community area
  • Usually a game drive plus a mokoro and a picnic
  • Operated by experienced mobile-safari teams
  • Park fees and a guide included; full-day excursion

From USD 160 per person, full day

Mokoro rides

The mokoro is the soul of the Okavango: a shallow dugout canoe, traditionally hand-carved and today poled by a skilled local guide who knows every channel. You sit low and silent at the waterline, gliding past lily pads and reed frogs while the poler reads the water. It's serene, intimate and the photograph everyone remembers — available as a short outing or part of a longer water-based safari.

  • Poled by experienced local guides through the channels
  • Short outings to overnight mokoro trails
  • Best at water-high months for the deepest channels
  • Calm and low-impact — wonderful for birders and photographers

From USD 35 per person, per outing

Boat cruise around Maun

When the rivers are flowing, a motorboat cruise on the Thamalakane or out toward the Boro is the easiest, most relaxed way onto the water around Maun. Drift past hippos and kingfishers, raise a sundowner as the light turns gold, and watch the fish eagles work the shallows. It's a gentle half-day or evening outing — perfect on your arrival or departure day, with no long transfer required.

  • On the Thamalakane / Boro rivers from Maun
  • Sundowner and birding cruises; private boats available
  • Subject to water levels — best in the high-water months
  • Ideal for arrival/departure days with no transfer

From USD 40 per person, per cruise

Good to know

Prices are honest “from” guides per person and are confirmed for your dates at quote stage. Many of these pair naturally — a mobile safari with a Delta day trip, a self-drive with the Makgadikgadi, a helicopter flip on a special day.
