Botswana & the Falls

Chobe

Elephants in their thousands, best seen from the water.

Getting there

Botswana

Suggested length

2–3 nights, ideal between the Delta and Victoria Falls

From

USD 350

Ideal for

Big-game viewing without long transfers

Chobe is where the safari clichés turn out to be true. In the dry season the river becomes the only reliable water for miles, and elephant, buffalo, giraffe and antelope crowd the banks while lion and leopard wait in the shade. The best seat in the house is a boat.

It pairs beautifully with everything: an easy road transfer from Victoria Falls across the Kazungula bridge, light-aircraft links to the Delta, and lodges to suit every budget — from the only property inside the park to riverfront houseboats on the Chobe itself.

We like Chobe as the social, comfortable bookend to a wilder Delta leg: shorter transfers, reliable big-game viewing, and golden-hour cruises that even reluctant safari-goers fall for.

Highlights

  • Boat-based game viewing among huge elephant herds
  • The only lodge inside the national park, with electric boats and vehicles
  • Houseboat options on the Chobe River
  • Easy combination with Victoria Falls (≈1 hour)
  • Strong value, especially for SADC residents

When to go

Dry season

May – Oct

Wildlife packs the riverfront; the boat cruises are unforgettable. Peak is Aug–Sep.

Green season

Nov – Apr

Lush landscapes, migrant birds and newborn animals, with lower rates and dramatic skies.

Getting there

Fly into Kasane (BBK), a short transfer from most lodges, or cross from Victoria Falls by road in about an hour via the Kazungula bridge. We handle the border formalities and KAZA Univisa guidance.
